It’s a dismal view, I know, but the church in the middle ground behind all the trees struck a chord. I recognized it as First Presbyterian Church in Aurora, Illinois, an Akron-Auditorium church of my acquaintance. I post this view, not because it illustrates the A-A typology to any great advantage, but primarily because this is such an iconic American streetscape. I’ll post a different, better view of First Prez later. For the time being, though, enjoy the wonderful Arts & Crafts house at the left (still there!) and the modest Italianate on the right, now gone or remodeled beyond recognition.

It says something about me that, driving down Fox Street (now Downer Place), I would be drawn to the nearer of the two churches. The second/farther church, even at this distance, offers no surprise: I know what to expect; each further step would only confirm that expectation. The first/nearer church, however, is intriguing in its obscurity.
