German Baptist Church, Madison, SD

June 8, 2014

German Baptists are a breed I’ve not encountered before, though the configuration here is similar to the Rolfe, Iowa church posted a day ago. This one still stands, however, at 322 Center Street West, with a likely construction date of about 1910. The clarity of the main facade is clouded with the now ubiquitous elevator block for ADA access. Surely there’s a better way to handle this, he inquired rhetorically.

This church was completed in 1921 after a fire burned the original to the ground.
