Congregational Church, Clear Lake, SD

June 11, 2014

The L-shaped configuration is the A-A at its very simplest. Witness the Congregational (now UCC) church in Clear Lake, SD, in the northeast corner of the state. The town is there, this building probably isn’t. My point is the implied bi-lateral symmetry of the building with (on the exterior, at least) near-identical wings on adjacent street façades. [Like that cedilla? Spellcheck doesn’t.] The architectural “peplums” at he eaves and the similar whohaas on the corners of the bell tower are just more fun than humans should be allowed to have.
