Lutheran Church, Shepherdstown, WV

June 20, 2014

It’s risky making generalizations about Lutherans and the A-A; they come in so many ethnic varieties doing service in their native languages (English, German, and all the Scandinavian countries). As a liturgical denomination—focused on ritual, similar to Roman Catholics, Anglicans, and Orthodox—their churches have tended toward axial linear organization leading inexorably to communion at the altar. So when a deviation shows up, such as this modest church in West Virginia, it’s hard not to notice.
