First Christian Church, Lewiston, ID

June 30, 2014

Image

The Disciples of Christ defaulted to the formal balance of Neo-Classicism, rather than the dynamic upward thrust of the Gothic. “Book-matched” facades like these are frequent in the South: mirror images on adjacent sides of a squarish plan; two pedimented entries and a domed interior at the intersection of their two implied axes. But this example is (or was) located at Lewiston, Idaho.
