Presbyterian Church, Caro, MI

July 2, 2014

After posting so many exteriors (curious as they may be), the true Akron-Auditorium experience is interior. In Louie Sullivan’s frame of reference, “form follows function.” So just as a reminder of what this project is about, here is a stunning A-A interior of the Presbyterian church in Caro, Michigan.

The organ and choir are given the dramatic treatment that only a choir director could imagine. The Sunday School is visible through the large movable partition at the left. And the pulpit? It’s lost somewhere in the center, just below that looming pendant. Not the most graceful interior but very typical of A-A organization. It took an exceptional skill to bring all these elements together in a cohesive decorative scheme and real structural logic and economy.
