Presbyterian Church, Osborne, KS

July 9, 2014

Osborne’s Presbyterian church seems to be missing today, but survives in several postcard views such as this real photo version. The architects were L. B. Valk & Son, a firm that became bi-coastal early in the 20th century, with father Louis in New York City and son Arthur in Los Angeles, contributing no doubt to the national scope of their practice. I ahve another view of this church published by an asbestos roofing manufacturer, using the church as a piece of advertisement. There is a duplicate of this design somewhere in the northern plains (I don’t recall where), perhaps in Montana or Idaho.

The folks in Osborne probably saw one of these churches in a periodical called The Expositor and Current Anecdotes promoting their “New Church Plan”.

Osborne is (or was) probably one or the other of these variants.
