Methodist Episcopal Church, Ada, OK

July 17, 2014

Ada, Oklahoma’s M.E. church (Methodist Episcopal was the denomination’s name until it merged with the United Brethren and became the UMC in the 50s) looks to me like the work of Dallas architect J. E. Flanders, though it lacks many of Flanders’ preferred Wrightian and Sullivanesque flourishes. His church designs from 1910 and later often employed domes with varying degrees of success.

Flanders himself must have been a card-carrying Methodist, since he designed at least a couple dozen churches for the denomination.
