Methodist Episcopal Church, Herington, KS

July 30, 2014

Herington’s former United Methodist congregation has presumably disbanded or are meeting in smaller quarters. Since 2012, this building has become a venue for weddings, anniversaries and other events. It also boasts an apartment for those passing through or visiting. You can follow the progress of this preservation effort on their blog or at pinterest. We wish them well.

In this postcard view, the altar and pulpit are situated beneath the rose window in the gable end. The Sunday School was located beyond in the volume identified by the slightly smaller gable, though an interior view at the blog shows individual Sunday School rooms closed off by doors from what might otherwise have been a general assembly space. It, however, is opened to the former sanctuary through a movable partition. So there is some evidence of an genuine A-A configuration, though it appears to have been modified over the years. All things considered, it’s good to have a fine “civic” building like this still serving as a landmark in the community. I’d like to find some way to help them.
