Lake Harriet Methodist Episcopal Church, Minneapolis, MN

November 7, 2014

No matter how bad things have been, coming back to this project, immersing myself for a few hours, always recharges the batteries. This is especially true when the trail brings me close to home. The 1916 Lake Harriet M.E. church is located at 44th and Upton—I’ve driven by it many times, but must have been distracted—though the congregation has moved farther west. Today (after a couple intermediate owners) it is Lake Harriet Spiritual Community and seems to be thriving. They are particularly proud of placing the building on the National Register recently.

The architects were Fulton & Butler of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, which comes as no surprise: J. C. Fulton handled the Classical Revival exceptionally well and very consistently. There are several examples of his work in the database.

Did you notice that the evidence presented here isn’t a postcard? Now and then, they come from other sources.
