Baptist Church, Selma, CA

May 25, 2015

CAselma

This Baptist church in Selma, California is in a style I’d place somewhere toward the Progressive-Arts & Crafts end of the spectrum. Help me if you disagree. The card is dated 1911. Though the interior is still unknown to me (the building still stands) I post it here as an example of the “A-B-a-b” sub-category in the database: Notice the entry towers (the “A” and “a”) and the actual volumes of space, the sanctuary (“B”) and Sunday School (“b”). This sort of rhythm occurs in virtually all styles, from Victorian Gothic and Richardsonian to Prairie School and Churrigueresque.
