United Church, Carman, Manitoba

December 1, 2015

Always happy to find an A-A example off my beaten path, here is the United Church (formerly Methodist) in Carman, Manitoba, about forty miles due north of Walhalla, ND, for those of you who know where I’m located. The United Church resulted from a merging of four denominations (Methodists, Congregationalists, Presbyterians, and EUBs) in the 1920s; it is Canada’s second largest denomination, after Roman Catholicism. The Carman church was formerly Methodist.

I learned about this example courtesy of google—who have helped me time and again. This building of 1906-1907 appears to have some provincial or national recognition. Most of the Canadian examples I know were designed by U.S. architects, though I wonder if this one is by local talent.
