Central Baptist Church, Norwich, CT

Architectural periodicals in 1891-1892 published a competitive design for Central Baptist in Norwich by J. Lyman Faxon. The repetition of that attribution prompted a letter-to-the-editor in February 1893 from one C. H. Preston of Norwich:

…The plans for Central Baptist Church, Norwich, Conn., were furnished by M. H. Hubbard, Architect, of Utica, New York, and bear no resemblance in any form to those as published by you. The church has been completed from Mr. Hubbard’s plans and is truly an ornament to our church list. Mr. Hubbard is an intimate friend of mine and I enjoy seeing him reap all his honors.”

There appear to have been three major changes: 1) the squat square lantern has been removed; 2) the secondary cylindrical tower is gone; and 3) the Sunday School wing on the far left seems to have been rebuilt.
