Methodist Episcopal Church, Southport, CT

January 27, 2016

The December 1898 issue of Brickbuilder includes the plan and perspective drawing of a competitive design for this Southport church. That architect (Hobart A. Walker) was apparently unsuccessful in obtaining the commission. The successful design (architect unknown) must have been constructed about that time. Unfortunately it has disappeared from the corner of Pequot and Center streets.

Lacking an aerial or any other view it this time, it’s difficult to say conclusively if this was an A-A building. The corner entry, lantern, and extension to the left are tantalizing.
