Greenwood Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church, Jackson, MI

February 8, 2016

Yet another example of “musical chairs” is represented by the Methodist church on Greenwood Avenue in Jackson, Michigan. This postcard shows what appears to be a longitudinal sanctuary with an auxiliary space (for Sunday School and/or socialization) at right angles, with a shared entry tower at the angle between them. The google.maps aerial view confirms this (at the sharp angles intersection of Greenwood and fourth Street), but that building is now identified as Trinity United Methodist Church. The Greenwood congregation still exists, but in a store from location four or five blocks northeast.

As often happens in the Midwest, where Methodism is especially strong, Jackson boasts seven other Methodist congregations.
