Julia Street Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church, Boaz, AL

March 6, 2016

ALboazME

Frankly, I don’t recall how this church in northern Alabama came to my attention. It’s name — Julia Street Memorial — derives from the name of a person, not the location of the building. Its National Register registration offers scant information about its origins, however, providing a date of construction  (1917) but no architect.

The NR nomination says that it was “constructed using the Akron Plan”:

The Main entrance opens into a narthex flanked by small Sunday School rooms which originally opened into the sanctuary, but c.1960s were closed off.”

By my reckoning, this might be an A-3 type, with minimal claims on Akronicity, but interesting nonetheless.
