First Baptist Church, McAlester, OK

March 8, 2016

Oklahoma has two things in common with North Dakota: 1) oil!, and 2) periods of settlement and development unlike practically any other state.  Admission to the Union in 1907 prompted an intense wave of construction coincident with the Classical Revival style, like this Baptist church in McAlester.

The American Architect for 17 November 1909 announced that the congregation had adopted plans for a $30,000 building but didn’t name the architect. Too bad this rendering of the building didn’t settle the matter.
