Only a handful of architectural firms extended their influence from coast to coast. Among them was Sidney Rose Badgley (sometimes Badgley & Nicklas) and one of his more spectacular works was the Epworth Memorial M.E. Church in Cleveland, built in 1891-1893 and opened with considerable fanfare. This congregation subsequently merged with another of Cleveland Methodist churches and built anew at University Circle; this building on East 55th was then demolished.
