First Baptist Church, Long Beach, CA

As with an earlier entry on First Christian church in Long Beach, may large masonry buildings has disappeared because of earthquake damage — either direct from their inability to withstand the wave action of the ground or due to fire when water lines were disrupted. Built in 1906, First Baptist was so damaged by the quake that they “could not use the building for over 7 weeks afterwards.” Only much later was the building replaced when it had grown too small.
