Methodist Episcopal Church, London, OH

August 10, 2016

OHlondonME

Half way between Springfield and Columbus, London is a thriving county seat. With mature trees surrounding it, First UMC appears smaller in the google “street view” than it does in this realphoto postcard. That image shows the Sunday School in the proper position to be Akron Plan but it conceals both the auditorium skylight “lantern” (hidden behind the tower) and the telltale Akron bulge along the rear elevation. A panoramic interior view shows where the connecting door (now closed) had been located.

Wikipedia credits it to Crapsey & Brown (from Cincinnati), with a $45,000 construction cost and November 1894 dedication. “Crapsey,” by the way, is pronounced CROP-see.
