Methodist Episcopal Church, Haskell, TX

August 17, 2016

At the outbreak of the Civil War, Methodism in the formerly “United” States split on the issue of slavery. So in the immediate post-war years, when the Akron-Auditorium plan was both new and Yankee, one might assume some reluctance on the part of Southern Methodists to adopt its efficiencies. This M.E. church in Haskell is probably Southern Methodist rather than UMC. This perspective has the look of professionalism about it, though an architect isn’t named.

PS: See what I mean about the investigative value of google.maps?
