Methodist Episcopal Church, Monmouth, IL

August 23, 2016

The tree cover today is so thick I almost didn’t recognize this church, stall standing at Broadway and South Second Street. Its Akron-icity isn’t clear from this vantage point, however. But a look at the back of the church (far left rear) tells a fuller story:

The now-windowless dormer may have once lit a tall two-story assembly space for the children. Dormers and lanterns admitted considerable amounts of light but they were also leak-prone and practically out of reach for maintenance.

What street and city is the building in the second picture located?

    • This is the same building, though from the south, rather than the Broadway front elevation. Those trees completely obscure the tower.
