Central Baptist Church, Wayne, PA

December 1, 2016

Central Baptist Church in Wayne, Pennsylvania was built in 1897-1898 from plans by Philadelphia architects Boyd & Boyd. This illustration appeared in the American Architect & Building News for September 13th, 1902. An enlarged version of the building still stands in Wayne between Lancaster and Wayne Avenues, though the Akron Sunday School has been replaced by something considerably larger. I’m sadder to report that the church was recently vandalized for posting a “Black Lives Matter” sign on its lawn.

This view is from Wayne Avenue.

UPDATE [05SEP2017]: This fragmentary image shows the plan in greater detail and confirms its C-1 status.
