Congregational Church, Atlanta, GA

January 10, 2017

New England Congregationalism must have had to make compromises when it moved into Dixie. In this case, advertising itself as “open to all the people” was a bold public position. Surprisingly the building looks today very much as it did in the postcard—John Wesley Dobbs Avenue and Courtland Street.

“Institutional Church” suggests a 24/7 urban institution with auxiliary programs beyond worship and religious education.
