Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist, Denver, CO

February 10, 2017

Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist is fairly unassuming. From the air, however, its wedge shape is prominent and an interior view shows the pulpit at the corner, putting the congregation in about a 30° angle. The narthex is wrapped around the back (the curved wall you see in the shadow). My guess is that any portion of the building that was dedicated to religious education was similarly placed in the lower level. Shapes like this are harder to categorize but (if I’m right) this is another F-1.

The architects in 1921 were Hoyt & Hoyt. One of them was Burnham Hoyt, an architect of astounding talent in the years between WWI and WWII. Look him up some time.
