Centenary Methodist Episcopal Church, Newark, NJ

February 21, 2017

Nineteenth century Newark was a dense sophisticated city with plenty of local architectural talent. Until today I’d never hears of R. H. Rowden, who is credited in 1886 with the design of a Methodist church at the corner of Summer and Kearny streets—gone, apparently for some time. It’s also amazing how such a substantial building as this can disappear and leave so little trace.
