Presbyterian Church, Fowler, CA

February 28, 2017

The eBay listing places this church in Fresno, but the card itself indicates the city of Fowler, a few miles southeast of Fresno. Assuming the caption to be accurate, the website for Fowler’s current Presbyterian congregation affords little information beyond the present church of 1923 having replaced an earlier building destroyed by fire. So I shall take it on faith that this $30K structure dating from 1912 was indeed built in Fowler.

The A-B-a-b configuration is fairly typical, as is the partial polygonal right hand end of the building, for an orthodox Akron-Auditorium plan to have existed for those scant eleven years.

UPDATE[15JUL2017]: This recent addition begins to tell a larger story about the Presbyterians of Fowler, California. The handwritten message here says the Spanish Colonial design was built in 1902 but hints at the possibility of earthquake damage. Could that account for masonry design of slightly later style dated as 1912?
