Green Lake Methodist Episcopal Church, Seattle, WA

March 13, 2017

I’ve admired this rambling structure for several years but hadn’t found a good postcard image until today. Thriving at the corner of Sixty-fifth Street and First Avenue North, interior view confirm an auditorium with wrap-around balcony. The wing for religious education on the west (out of sight in this view) is positioned for potential connection with the sanctuary, though the two available photos don’t confirm that. The entry on First Avenue (the sloped street on the left, gives the building a decided Arts & Crafts character compatible with the varying degrees of uncoursed ashlar masonry.

The 1903 building (with 1910 additions) is called “historic” on the current church website, recognition of its merit as a piece of Seattle heritage. And an article of 1910 places a value of the property at $15,000.
