Ninth Street Christian Church, Hopkinsville, KY

March 13, 2017

Now called First Christian Church, the Ninth Street facility (at the corner of Liberty Street) was extensively remodeled in 1907, when various wings were added to a much older building. According to the Images of America volume for Christian county, KY, that church had been constructed in 1850 — presumably the gabled portion with twin octagonal towers — and the building shown here was demolished in 1958. The early construction date for its first phase speaks against an Auditorium sanctuary, but the 1907 additions could easily have incorporated an Akron Sunday school. Perhaps a letter to the current congregation will offer some insight.
