First Baptist Church, Walla Walla, WA

March 17, 2017

How so substantial a building as First Baptist (a.k.a. The White Temple) can be lost to progress is a continuing mystery to me. If it was fire, flood or other natural act, it must have been a bad one. Torn down in November 1986, it is one of the grandest Neo-Classical confections I’ve yet seen in this years-long study. The potential for an Akron Sunday school is hinted by the auxiliary entry at the rear of the left side. It’s not unusual for such symmetrical buildings to have deviant orientation for the sanctuary.
