Presbyterian Church, Piper City, IL

May 1, 2017

Both the quantity and the quality of information about these buildings is uneven, as I’ve said before. Lay people and even historians of architecture might be surprised to learn that one curious source of information has been the Organ Historical Society and the American Guild of Organists, whose interest in historic instruments often gives them access to data about the buildings themselves. We may not know very much yet about the Presbyterian church in Piper City, Illinois, but I can tell you the organ was installed in 1914, which puts the construction date only slightly before that. The interior organization here is still a mystery but I’m working on it.

Does this second exterior view help? The church is situated at the northwest corner of Margaret and Vine streets.

  1. Very true about the Organ Historical Society which has been cataloging information since the 1960s. The database currently has about 70,000 entries. Addresses, photographs, histories are added wherever possible.
