Methodist Episcopal church, Dardanelle, AR

May 15, 2017

This Prairie Style UMC church in Dardanelle, Arkansas was built in 1881 but heavily remodeled in 1917 when, presumably, it gained most of its Wrightian characteristics. The porch and extension at the “front” are easily explained as narthex or vestibule. those on the other three sides — only one appears here, but they do exist on the two hidden sides — may have held Sunday school “break-out spaces of the saddle bag variety which was far more popular in the South than in other parts of the country.
