It’s fortunate, I suppose, that the Richardsonian Romanesque came along when it did, since the style lent itself to the expression of large interior volumes. Though Richardson himself appears not to have designed an Akron-Auditorium building, his imitators produced them in quantity, if not always in true Richardsonian style. First Baptist church in Peru, Indiana, is among the better of the lot.

I apologize for the quality of this reproduction from the pages of theĀ American Architect and Building News of 14 April 1894. The building still sits proudly at the corner of Wabash and Main streets in Peru, occupied by its original denomination and presumably not going anywhere. Here is a more recent image:
