Methodist Episcopal Church, Kearney, NE

June 6, 2017

There are several published references to construction of First Methodist church in Kearney (dated 1906 and 1907) but none of them mention an architect. Too bad. The exterior is an aggressive Gothic Revival style typical of many Great Plains towns at the turn of the century. The interior, if I’m reading this postcard view correctly, is a classic D-1 or D-2, which may be difficult to verify, since the building is long since gone.

I can attest that regional cities like Omaha and Lincoln had resident architects during the years 1890-1920, so importing out-of-state talent would have been unnecessary.
