Methodist Episcopal Church (South), Hillsboro, TX

July 7, 2017

In the southwest and west of the U.S., and despite the various merging of Methodists in the 1950s, many communities still have Methodist congregations that are a legacy of the 19th century split on the question of slavery. Here is the M.E., South, church in Hillsboro, TX.

The postcard shows book-matched street elevations (suggesting a “D” type sanctuary) but the street view today indicates a major change at some point: the large window on the right or Elm Street side has been replaced with several shorter lancet windows. And the interior view on the church’s website crops any view of where a movable partition might be or have been.
