Presbyterian Church, Holyoke, MA

July 7, 2017

This massive granite and sandstone design housed the Presbyterian of Holyoke, Massachusetts from its construction in 1886-1887 until the building was acquired by Centro de Restauracion Emanuel Inc. In this case there is an embarrassment of visual materials available, while the name of its architect remains unknown (to me, at least). Its early date and New England location may be obstacles in it having been an A-A design.

Consider a roughly contemporary building in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood for comparison.
