Presbyterian Church, Fergus Falls, MN

July 25, 2017

Fergus Falls is a modest sized community about forty-five miles southeast of Fargo. For those of us who make the Twin Cities trip fairly regularly, it is a convenient place to stop for coffee, gas, and a stretch. I’m more familiar with the FF houses, so it was notable that I ran across two postcard views of churches there today.

For some time I believed this church in Fergus had been the work of William C. Albrant, a young Fargo architect who died in 1905 at the age of thirty-four. It is the similarity of the tower with another known Albrant design, First Baptist in Fargo. Those tall slender dormers, window-above-window, are a giveaway. So it was a relief today to have run across a reference to the Fergus Falls commission in The Improvement Bulletin, naming Albrant as the architect.
