Baptist Church, Hamburg, IA

July 28, 2017

This Baptist church in Hamburg, Iowa is slightly modified from the time this postcard was made. The polygonal bay have been replaced and the crenelated tower barely visible through the tree must have leaked; it has been capped in an ungraceful but expeditious way.

What I do admire about this design are the two street facades, where the height of the gables has been reduced by treating them as dormers. The windows are thereby more horizontal and that effect is amplified by the horizontal brick molding.
