Methodist Episcopal Church, Lakefield, MN

November 5, 2017

Lakefield is in the southern tier of Minnesota counties, not in what I think of as “lake country.” This UMC church is located at the corner of Fifth and Cherry streets, though the entrance has been changed and the building more than doubled in size by the addition of a wing to the left (north). There is insufficient on-line information to confirm its A-A status.

The style is a modified version of the Prairie School, more restrained than would have been the case if it were the work of Purcell & Elmslie or other Progressive architects. There is another version of this scheme fifty miles northwest at Tracy, MN, also UMC and with more obvious Prairie School characteristics.
