M.E. Church, Kingston, NY (1.1)

November 30, 2017

The project’s roving ambassador, Richard Kenyon, reports this evening about today’s trip to Kingston, NY. St James UMC has been listed here before, but Richard found the 1893 G. W. Kramer church in practically mint condition, including both the diagonal plan auditorium and the two-level Akron Plan Sunday school. The folding and sliding doors still operate and the original lighting fixtures remain. What surprised me was news that the stone is green serpentine from Chester County, PA, with cream from another location as door and window trim. We’ve seen this stone before in a Methodist church at Washington, NJ.
