Methodist Episcopal Church, Rolla, ND

December 19, 2017

North Dakota was never rich with examples of the full-blown A-A. But a near approximation is the simple L-shape with entry tower in the re-entrant angle. The smallest version of this was promoted by both Methodists and Presbyterians in smaller or rural communities. Rolla, on the edge of the Turtle Mountain Reservation, has a slightly larger version, now a Presbyterian church (at First Avenue and First Street).

Google.maps doesn’t offer a streetview but the building seems to be constructed of CMUs; the b&w photo makes it look far more like pressed metal, which was also quite common in these parts.
