Methodist Episcopal Church, Belle Center, OH

December 31, 2017

CMUs or concrete masonry units were a popular building material during the heyday of the A-A. The U.S. Patent Office was bombarded with applications for innovative block shapes or the machines designed to produce them (the two ways to achieve copyright protection) but the intent was to simulate stone construction at a fraction of the cost. Without actually seeing this church in person, I’m guessing the primary material was CMU construction. The A-B-a-b arrangement is a clue to an A-A interior.
