Central Methodist Episcopal Church, Frankford (Philadelphia), PA

July 29, 2018

The eBay seller has listed this church at Frankford, Michigan. There is a Frankfort, but no Frankford, so I tried the only place I know with that name: a neighborhood in Philadelphia with sufficient population to have supported a church of this size. Sure enough, it was there, at 1515 Orthodox Street, though in a sadly deteriorated condition—if it is standing at all. The most recent occupants have left a bad reputation.

The architects were Hazlehurst and Huckel.

The sanctuary wall has fallen in and allowed further vandalization to occur.

It also had a full-fledged Akron Sunday school, which seems to have been disconnected from the auditorium. This looks later in style and maybe be a second phase.

Ooops, here’s the site today.
