Unitarian-Universalist Church, Willamette Falls, OR

September 29, 2018

The Unitarian-Universalist church in Willamette Falls is unusual for two reasons. First, for its lateness: 1925, well beyond the end of Akron Plan popularity. Second, for its client: Unitarian-Universalists are at the “Progressive” end of the American religious spectrum but used the admittedly “Progressive” A-A idea very infrequently. That being said, it’s a remarkable variation on the diagonal plan subgroup.

Architect Willard Tobey was a well known Portland architect who designed a number of Oregon churches on this model; Willamette may be the last  of them.
